Using Energy3D, I designed and simulated a solar power tower system featuring heliostats that concentrate sunlight onto a central receiver. This setup allowed exploration of key design considerations such as heliostat placement, receiver height, and optimal solar angles. Compared to traditional photovoltaic panel arrays, the solar tower configuration offers significant advantages, including higher energy conversion efficiency, the potential for thermal energy storage, and improved performance in large-scale applications. The project emphasized how proper angling and positioning of heliostats are essential for maximizing energy capture, showcasing the value of centralized solar thermal systems for utility-scale renewable power generation.
